3200mAh Li Ion Receiver Pack for the 8-X and other vehicles

Dynamite has released a new receiver pack in collaboration with the TLR team.  It is part number DYNB0510 and is a 3200mAh lithium ion pack.  So, it has a lot of capacity and is safer than lipos.  It also fits much easier in the vehicle.

TLR344035 3.5mm shock shaft conversion for 8IGHT-X

Hello everyone,

Many have asked us about the 3.5mm shock shaft conversion for the 8IGHT-X that some of the team run so I wanted to provide the full rundown here.

3.5mm Shock Shaft Conversion

The 8IGHT-X comes with our traditional 4mm shock shafts.  The 4mm shock shafts are more durable for the average user and we wanted to maintain the durability in the vehicle we are known for.  However, after much testing, we noticed an advantage to having a smaller diameter 3.5mm shock shafts. The main advantage to the 3.5mm shock shaft setup is they handle the smaller sharper bumps better. The smaller diameter shafts pack up less and this is what accounts for the handling change.

This kit comes with a complete setup to convert your 8IGHT-X to the 3.5mm shock shafts. The kit includes the guide set, x-rings, shock ends, and shock shafts.  Each of these are also available separately in case you need replacements down the road.

The shock ends are indeed different.  There are separate shock ends for the 3.5mm and the 4.0mm shock shafts due to the thread sizing.

Given all of that info, we wanted to share how this conversion package is installed.  This is installed in this order: Thin guide, x-ring, thick guide, x-ring, lower guide (with the thicker portion in).

Hopefully, that image also helps some.

Also, one other item we noticed is that after some time, some "sticktion" can occur and this is due to the thickness of the center thick guide.  Given this, we recommend sanding this down right away from 2.5mm to 1.9mm as shown in the below images.  We will update this moving forward but some of these made it in and this is an easy adjustment to make.

New TLR front 1/10th scale buggy springs

Hello everyone,

This week, I would like to share that TLR has released a new line of front 1/10th springs sold individually. These springs are all stiffer then our standard front Silver spring that come with all 22 lines of vehicles. From testing, we’ve found that having this wider range of springs is needed for all the different surface situations faced in racing today from 1/10th clay to 1/10th turf or carpet. Gear diff tip

Hello everyone,

This week, I would like to share what I do with my TLR 22 and 22-4 2.0 gear diff outdrives. I’ve seen that some people have had outdrive set screws coming loose, which can damage the outdrive pin by rounding off the flat spot used for the set screws. Here’s what I do to make sure this doesn’t happen; I use red lock tight gel. I use this on the set screws, and I also add a small amount to the outdrive pin before installing the outdrive. (see pic) Be sure to not over do this on the drive pin as a little bit of lock tight goes a long way.

22 4.0 raised rear shock tower 1mm

Hello everyone,

This week, I would like to share a little insight/details from the latest TLR 22 4.0 posted by Frank and Chad (Setup can be found here). In this setup, Frank adds in the notes in the lower right corner to raise rear shock tower 1mm. I just added 4x 1mm axle washers over the aluminum posts on the transmission case, and then replaced the tower (see pic). Here’s an explanation on what this does and what other things you can do along with this change (Give the car 1mm more rear up travel, and also add 2mm external limiters in the front to decrease the front up travel). Basically, the car is rolling to the ‘stops’ sometimes, and the front/rear roll was not balanced causing the car to roll over the front more (especially in sweepers and high grip). Evening out that roll helps to keep the car from flipping and gives it a better balance through those turns.

22T 4.0 setup from Gspeed Raceway and their Walking Dead Race

This week, I would like to share my TLR 22T 4.0 setup that I’ve been practicing/racing over the last couple of weeks. I posted on the #22empire on Facebook to share your setup and I used a lot of input from there to come up with this one I have here (thanks everyone on #22empire for your support!). I used this setup and raced this past weekend at Gspeed raceway and I brought home the TQ and the win at their first annual Walking Dead Race. GSHOBBY/Gspeed raceway is located in Barling, Arkansas with a fully stocked hobby shop and an awesome racing facility. I can’t wait to race there again.

Results for end of September and beginning of October

Hello everyone,

This week, I would like to share some results from the past two weekends at some great events. First up we had the TLR cup west at Tacoma RC raceway in Tacoma, WA. We saw Dakotah Phend take the victory in the 2wd mod and 4wd mod classes along with Luke Unis winning the 17.5 buggy class and Douglas Hobbs in the Pro4 mod SCT class. Second up, we had the JConcepts INS8 at RC Excitement in Fitchburg, MA, where we saw Taddie Anderson take the win in the stock buggy class along with Caleb Jennings with the win in the 13.5 stadium truck class. JR Mitch RC’s 22 4.0 project stock build

I started this project back on August 20th and I work on it each week for a couple of hours at a time. I finished up a week ago, starting from a bare chassis and then going all the way to racing it at my home track (Newred Hobbies in Ocala, FL.). Tyler Jones wins in Minnesota at Thunder Road RC Raceway

22 4.0 rear arms on the 22-4 2.0

Earlier this year I began working on a setup for the 22-4 2.0, since switching to TLR I was struggling a bit to find consistency with the handling of the rear of the car. After a bit of brainstorming I thought I would give the 2wd rear arms a try for 2 reasons.

1. The 2wd rear arms outer shock mounting location is equal to the 4wd inner most hole allowing more useful adjustment.
2. The 2wd rear arms are a gull wing shape, and I believe gull wing rear arms help the car generate a bit of grip, and consistency.

Frank had the arms put on the car in solid works so we could match the droop / axle location of the stock 4wd geometry. The team stayed for an extra day of testing following the INS at Hobby Action, both Frank and Dakotah had an opportunity to run the full setup, and we all ran the setup at the 2018 ROAR Nats and this will be the base setup moving forward and we recommend everyone to try it.

Parts you’ll need for the modification / team setup moving forward.
22 4.0 rear arm - TLR234079 or Stiffezel TLR334047
22 shock limiters – TLR5096
AE LONG shock ends – ASC91820
AE spring perch – ASC91310
The only part that needs modified are the rear arms, 1 hole will need to be drilled in each arm to mount the 4wd sway bar.

When installing the arms it is very important to get the arm / hub spacing correct or wheelbase will be effected. Arms- the arms should be spaced all the way to the rear of the car, I used 3.5mm of 22 shock limiters to accomplish this Hubs- hubs should be spaced with 1mm in front of the hub and 3mm rear of the hub. [note: if you want to use the 22-4 outer hinge pin on the 2wd arm you can all you have to do is place 1 1mm spacer on between the nut and the arm]

The rear shock needs to be longer to account for the shape of the arm, we are also running extra droop with this setup front and rear.

Front Shock 0 internal limiters – 25mm stroke – use the ae long rod ends Rear Shock 0 internal limiters – 3mm of external limiters – 33mm stroke – use the long ae rod ends We run 2-outside on the front shock, and 3-middle on the rear shock. On the upper shock mount you will need to use a 3x35 steel screw to mount the shock with a 9mm worth of spacing to correct the shock angle.

The last thing to pay attention too is the rear dog bone engagement into the outdrive. We run the 68mm bone with 1mm axle spacers with the rear ball diff.

Set-up using front SLRC

This week, I would like to share a set-up using last week’s blog post talking SLRC on the front of your TLR 22 vehicles. Last Saturday, I made the trip to Newred Hobbies here in Florida and met up with TLR/JConcepts racer, Erik Everett, and we worked together getting his TLR 22 4.0 SR working well using the front SLRC. Below is Erik’s setup and here’s a little insight on Newred Hobbies track, which is high grip running on JConcepts gold octagons with carpet wood jumps.

Front SLRC on 22 4.0

Hello everyone,

This week, I would like to talk about SLRC (Super Low Roll Center) for the front of your 22 vehicles. This mod is very easy to do, and it helps the front end of the car roll more on higher grip stations giving the car a more forgiving feel and less grip rolling. (See picture below) The front two washers on the front kick shim are standard 1mm ball stud washers; the rear two washers I’ve used are 1mm rear axle spacers. After adding these shims to the kick shim on the car, this lowers the front inner hinge pins by 1mm giving you the SLRC front pivot. Along with this change, I suggest increasing the front spring rate by one, adding 1mm more front stroke, and lowering the inner front ball stud by 1mm.

22 4.0 Body options

Hello everyone,

This week, I would like to talk about the body options you have for your TLR 22 4.0. First off, all the bodies I talk about here today come in both regular weight and light weight option. The only difference in the two is the lexan thickness, which with a lighter body would reduce overall weight and give the car a lower CG. TLR (TLR230010 and TLR230008), JConcepts (JCO0318 and JCO0318L), and Pro-Line (PRO329230 and PRO329225) all have bodies available. All have slightly different styling characteristics and perform slightly different. Dakotah Phend prefers the TLR (TLR230008) for its overall look and its balance front to rear on the car. I prefer the JConcepts (JCO0318L) for its great styling and the forgiveness it gives me on the track. Tanner Denney goes with the Pro-Line (PRO329225) for its awesome drivability on all different track conditions. Bladder shocks & Emulsion shocks

This past weekend I attended the Roar fuel Nationals and I switched from emulsion to bladder and I saw a much more stable car on the high-speed track at Southside RC Raceway on bladder shocks over emulsion.
