TLR 8 build tips and tricks part one (turnbuckles)

Hello TLR fans

I thought I might give you guys an inside view of the tips and tricks I have come across through the last 5 years of working on the 8 line of vehicles. Some mine and some not but these are the ones that I use the most. This time I will include just a few but will update and build on the this base asap.

The first two are turnbuckle tricks that I use. One that you can use right away, and one that will take a little dremeling to build the tool.

After popping the pivot ball into the rod end(shiny side first) you can use a 5/64 allen wrench and the TLR camber wrench TLR99012 to speed up the process and take the stress off of you hands and fingers

And my method of choice is to use this modified outdrive to speed things up a bit more. I have dremeled this out to fit both 4mm and 5mm (buggy and truggy) rod ends. Make sure to use this with a lower speed drill. I think you will find these to take the stress off of you hands and speed up your build or re-builds!

TLR4167: Brass Weight System for rear motor TLR 22 and 22T

TLR has just announced and released a new rear motor brass weight system, TLR 4167, for the TLR line of 22 vehicles. The new brass weight system allows racers to add a total of 14 grams of weight, in 7 gram increments, to the top of the transmission. TLR4167 comes with two 16mm button head screws to secure the two 7 gram brass weights plates. The brass plates are laser etched with the weight of the brass weight and the TLR logo. The added weight to the rear of the vehicle provides more forward traction when exiting a turn. TLR has found that less weight is needed when mounted on top of the transmission compared to mounting the weight between the bulkhead and transmission case. The location of the weights also allows for easy access for quick tuning.

Raising the Transmission in the TLR22 and 22T

Something the TLR team has been adjusting from time to time on the 22/22T has been the height of the transmission. This is typically done when running the LRC rear blocks and is simply another tuning option out there to help dial in your TLR 22 and 22T. This affects bone plunge and can alter your rear traction characteristics. Most of the team has settled in on raising the transmission by 1mm. It may not seem like much but it makes a dramatic difference to the way the vehicle handles. Most report back that this change tends to settle the vehicle through the center and exit of a corner providing more side bite and the ability to throttle up sooner. Basically, in non-technical terms, this improves forward traction and takes the “wiggle” out of the car under acceleration out of a corner.

In order to raise the transmission you need to two 1mm TLR 22 shock limiters (TLR5096) and two 1mm ball stud washers of which we typically use the aluminum ones (TLR6019). You place the two shock limiters on the rear toe block as shown in the picture and the two ball stud washers on the camber block as shown in the picture. The reasoning behind using the different washers has to do with the OD and the ID matching up on each of the blocks so the screws still go through easily. Another tip is that once you decide if you like this change, you can place a small spot of CA below the washer which makes it easier to get it all lined up when re-installing your transmission.

Next, you will need to clip off the nubs on the tongue of the transmission that key into the camber block so that you are only raising the tranny 1mm. Clip the nubs off and sand flat. Put the transmission back in place now and there you have it, the transmission is now 1mm higher.

Adjusting kick on the TLR 22 & 22T

One of the unique features of the 22 and 22T is that you can adjust front kick. The 22 comes with 20 and 25 degree kick shims while the 22T comes with a complete 30 degree kick pivot. We envision many drivers trying more kick on their 22 with the release of the 22T's 30 degree front pivot. If you own a 22 and want to try 30 degree kick you will need the following part. When using the 30 degree pivot do not use the pivot shims included with the 22.

Here is a technical article with a great and simple conclusion at the end to help all of us understand how kick changes vehicle dynamics. Increasing kick on a 2wd platform (kick effects 4wd slightly different due to the front drive) will predominately place more weight on the rear of the vehicle. The increase angle relative to the horizontal also absorbs sharp edge bumps as the kick angle serves as an auxiliary suspension and allows the front wheels to move rearward thus shortening the wheelbase. Think of more kick as almost like a break-away front end. This is why more kick is always better in the bumps. There is one caveat though. More kick will induce a more active weight transfer. The reduction in wheelbase as the front suspension compresses will result in a more aggressive weight transfer over the front; it just takes more force to get the suspension to that point compared to less kick. You can visualize the front wheels sweeping backward and the frontend of the car protruding over the front wheels more so as kick angle increases, but as I said, it just take more force to get the front suspension to that point. Front kick can be thought of as “front anti-squat”, but there are some hidden phenomenon that can be challenging. 2wd cars have historically always had more kick over 4wd cars as they need more weight transfer to develop grip, and there no front brakes or massive front weight transfer that would play into the negatives of having more kick.

In conclusion, more kick yields more rear grip, absorbs sharp edge bumps more readily, but will transfer weight more aggressively if forces are available to compress the front suspension. Less kick transfers weight at a slower rate, sacrifices in the choppy bumps, but drives flatter around the track.

What aftermarket parts do I need for my 22?

We receive a lot of requests of what aftermarket parts do racers truly need for their TLR 22. Even though the TLR 22 is a great 2wd buggy out of the box there are some parts that our race team likes to use on their cars to improve performance and durability. Here is a list of the parts that our team drivers prefer to run and short reasons and details of why they choose to do so.

TLR1043- Front King Pin, Threaded, TiNitride (2). Most of the team prefer these because they improve the durability of the spindles.

TLR1058-Caster Block, 5 Degree. Nearly the whole team runs 25 degree kick with 5 degree caster blocks.

TLR1072-Front Pivot, Aluminum: The main reason the team likes to run the aluminum front pivot is the added weight on the front end. The alumin pivot adds 7 grams of weight over the stock plastic pivot providing a smoother off-power feel and increased on-power steering. If you are interested in adding even more weight to the front of your 22 the (TLR1049)25 degree brass kick shim adds 8.8 grams of weight and the (TLR1048) 20 degree brass kick shim adds 16grams of weight.

TLR1555, 1556, 1557- Aluminum Servo Horn. TLR offers three of the aluminum servo horns to support all of the different servo splines. The aluminum servo horn increases durability over the stock servo arms. TLR1555 is a 23 spline and supports Airtronics, Spektrum, and JR. TLR1556 is a 24 spline and supports HiTec servos and TLR1557 is a 25 spline and supports Futaba servos.
TLR2056 Rear Outer Threaded Hinge Pins. If you don't want any e-clips on your 22.
TLR2060-Rear Camber Block, Aluminum-TLR offers this for added durability. The aluminum camber block offers superior durability and adds 6 grams off weight to the rear of the car aiding forward traction.

TLR2931-Rear Hex, +.75mm Width, Aluminum: The .75mm hexes widen the rear track of the car a total of 1.5mm allowing for increased stability. Some of the team will run +1.5mm hexes (TLR2932) for a total increase of 3mm track width for further enhanced stability.

TLR2946 Diff Nut, Gen II. These are the new diff nuts that have the metal insert molded into the diff nut. This is a must and will ensure an excellent diff build.

TLR2947 Tungsten Carbide Thrust Balls, 2mm (6). The 22 is equipped with steel balls. Granted these balls work fine, the tungsten balls are much harder and add longevity to the differential.

TLR2951 Tugnsten Carbide Diff Balls, 3/32" (14). The 22 is equipped with steel balls. Granted these balls work fine, the tungsten balls are much harder and add longevity to the differential.

TLR2984 Toe Plate, 3 Degree, Low Roll Center, Aluminum. As you already know the 22 comes equipped with a 4 degree rear toe pivot. Most of the team runs the 3 degree pivot allowing the car to be freer without taking away too much rear grip.

TLR4150 Battery Tray, Aluminum. This is not a necessity but the aluminum battery tray does allow you to move the battery 10mm forward in the short pack battery screw location. The 10mm forward location is exactly where our team runs the shorty pack.

TLR5074 Low Friction Shock Shaft O-Rings (8). If you want ultra free shocks with very little o-ring stiction these o-rings work the best. The challenge though is that you will have some oil weepage from the bottom of the shock cartridge and shock rebuilds are more important.

TLR6074 Titanium Turnbuckles, 22. If you are looking to save additional weight check out the 22 Titanium turnbuckle kit as well as the titanium shock mount kit, TLR4166.

Now if you are a mid motor fan check out the Brass weight system for the 22. TLR 4151 is specially designed brass weight system for the mid motor 22, this aftermarket part offers a convenient weight system that is attached with screws to the top of the transmission. The added weight aids in forward traction on the mid motor 22. The main weight is 50 grams but can be increased to 58 grams and 62 grams with attachable sub weights. The sub weights are in increments of 4 and 6 grams and can be screwed to the side of the main block to add more weight. Laser etched for easy identification of weights and TLR branding.

70T spur gear for the TLR22 and other new parts....

Hello again, we recently announced and released a new spur gear for the 22. It is a 70 tooth spur gear for non-timing stock racing. The spur gear is made out of our popular kevlar gear material. Some racers may be concerned that the gears are now black. This was simply a color change only and the material has not been changed whatsoever. The part number for the new spur gear is TLR3978 and they are currently in stock.

Also we realized that many racers were frustrated to have to buy the complete 22 wing mount set in order to get the wing washers. Well we now offer a solution for this and sell the wing washers in a four pack. The part number is TLR8201.

High Roll Center Shims for the 22

Some racers may or may not know this but there are two different sets of anti-squat shims for the TLR 22 and 22T. The shims that come in the 22 and 22T are labeled as "22T". These are the shims for low roll center, and support all rear toe pivots that are labelled LRC. The part number for these shims is TLR2044. To support the high roll center rear toe blocks you will need the HRC shims. The part number for these shims is TLR 2045 and these shims support all HRC rear toe pivots. This includes part numbers TLR2979, 2980, 2981, & 2982.

Now you may ask yourself, "What's the difference in roll center height and how does it affect my vehicle?"

The difference between high and low roll center is 1mm. This means that the inner hinge pin is 1mm higher when using the HRC blocks and shims or vice versa.

We found on the 22 and the 22T that we prefer low roll center on the rear motor car while the team in the UK prefers high roll center (mid motor). One of the main changes going to a high roll center does to the car is it raises the roll center which ultimately makes the car roll less. A lower roll center allows the car to roll more. Another key factor that we must remind you is that with low roll center you are inducing more dogbone plunge into the out drive. More dogbone plunge creates more mechanical bind and gives the car more grip. With high roll center the car has less dogbone plunge resulting in less mechanical bind.

TLR 22 SHOCK TIPS

Shocks are one of the most important components to a good handling car and they are also one of the most overlooked. The shocks hold the car up, help it through the bumps and jumps, and most of all help the car develop grip. We are going to walk you through some key points to pay close attention to so you will always have well tuned shocks. Then we will show you the steps of how the TLR team builds their racing shocks.

Shock O-rings:
TLR offers two sets of shock o-rings for the 22. There are three set-ups you can use with these two sets of shock o-rings.

OPTION 1

Gray o-rings come with the TLR 22. The gray o-rings are great for a racer that does not want to do much shock maintenance. The gray o-rings are bit larger in diameter allowing the o-ring to have more compression from the shock body and providing a tighter seal. You will notice more friction on the shock shaft with the gray o-rings.

OPTION 2

Option 2 is the black and gray o-ring setup and it's what most racers prefer. Here we are using one low friction black o-ring (TLR5074) and one standard gray o-ring (TLR5093). This increases the performance of your shock from the standard kit set-up by allowing the shock to have less o-ring stiction. You will notice the shock shaft stiction will be cut in half. This will help the car develop more grip and handle better through the bumps. You will have a small amount of oil leaking from the shock from time to time but this will stop once the shock o-rings swell from the silicone oil. When building your shocks with this option always put the gray o-ring in last to give you the best seal.

OPTION 3

Option three is the low friction black o-ring setup. This setup will provide the greatest performance with the least amount of shock o-ring stiction but will yield some oil leakage. When building your shocks with this option you will notice a small amount of friction on the shock shaft. With this set-up it is best to top off your shocks throughout the day of racing. This setup is what most of the TLR team uses on their 22’s.

SHOCK BUILDING TIPS

Now we are going to go over a couple of tips and things to look for when assembling your shocks together. This will assure that your shocks are at the highest performance level at all times.

TIP 1
Greasing the shock o-rings

When installing new shock o-rings it is always best to apply a small amount of Losi shock o-ring grease (LOSA99208) to the inside on the shock seals. This will improve a few things, help make the o-ring last longer and make your shock shafts much freer which improves performance on the track. Using the Losi shock o-ring grease will also prevent less leakage from the o-rings.

TIP 2
Removing the plastic flashing off the shock piston

Looking close you will see a small peice of flashing on the shock piston. This is where the piston was removed from the mold. This is completely normal for the piston to have this small piece of flashing on it but can be disastrous for your shock. Without removing the flashing, it will increase the friction the piston has within the shock body and decreases the performance of your shock. This is easily fixed by using 120 grit sandpaper and lightly sanding off the flashing.

TIP 3
Cutting out the bladders

We have found that the shocks perform better as an emulsion shock over the stock bladder compensated shock. We have found that the emulsion shock lands better, has a better balance, and increased grip. There are two easy ways to turn your stock bladder compensated shocks into emulsion shocks.

On the left is Option 1. This is the new shock cap o-ring included in LOSA5006.

On the right is Option 2, a standard shock bladder where the center has been cut out with a pair of scissors. By installing option 1 or 2 this will turn your bladder compensator shock into an emulsion shock. After doing this tip you will need to follow the directions to properly bleed an emulsion shock.

TIP 4
Bleeding an emulsion shock

Bleeding an emulsion shock is the last and most important step of building your shocks. You want to make sure that all four of the shocks are bled the same. Inconsistent shock pressures will hurt the track performance. Here is the best way we have found to assure all four shocks are bled the same.

First, have the shock shaft fully extended and fill the shock with oil to the top of the shock body. You don’t want the oil to spill over the top of the shock. You want a nice concave look to the oil once the shock is filled. Once you have the shock filled, push the shock shaft up and down a couple of times to remove any trapped air. At this point let the shock sit for a couple of minutes to ensure that all of the air bubbles float out of the oil.

After the shocks have sat for a couple of minutes pull the shock shaft completely down. Make sure the o-ring or cut bladder is installed into the shock cap and screw the shock cap onto the shock body. Only screw the shock cap on about ¾ of the way leaving about two threads showing.

At this point hold the shock at a 45 degree angle. It is very important to have the hole in the shock cap pointing up as this is where the excess oil will bleed from. Slowly push the shock shaft all the way in. There should be a fare amount of oil that bleeds out of the shock cap hole. If no oil comes out of the hole then you either did not have enough oil in the shock or the cap is too tight. Once the shock shaft is completely compressed into the shock body release the shaft. If it rebounds quickly, then the cap was too tight and you need loosen the cap and start over. After the oil bleeds out of the hole, tighten the cap down by hand and then move the shock shaft in and out quickly to pump the shock. Now lay the shock back over at a 45 degree angle with the hole in the cap facing up. With the shaft pushed in, open the cap up until you see some oil come out the bleed hole then tighten the cap back down with your shock tool. After these steps are completed the shock should move in and out smoothly and there should be little to no pressure in the shocks during full up travel while also having very little rebound pressure. There should be no more than 3 to 6mm of rebound in the shocks. If there is more rebound than 3 to 6mm then repeat the last step and bleed more oil out until all shocks are equally matched.

Once all the tips and tricks are completed you will find yourself with a set of high performance TLR 22 shocks ready to hit the track.

Shock Maintenance

Now that you have a set of performance shocks here is how the TLR team maintains their shocks.

Tip One:
The team likes to use the shock cap bottom that holds in the o-ring as an adjustment tool. When new o-rings are installed tighten the bottom shock cap all the way. As you run your car the o-rings will swell over time. After the 2nd day of running on new o-rings, loosen the shock cap bottom ¼ turn. This will relieve the pressure on the o-rings and decrease the stiction of your shock. The next time at the track loosen the bottom shock cap another 1/4 turn. This will put you at ½ turn out on the bottom cap. This is the maximum you want to loosen the shock cap bottom. Generally the top drivers run their shocks o-rings for three days before replacing them with new o-rings.

Tip Two:
When changing the oil in your shocks add a small amount of Losi shock o-ring grease to the shock shaft. When adding this grease make sure to work the grease into the o-rings by moving the shaft in and out quickly. Then wipe off the excess grease so dirt won't stick to your shocks. This will help keep the friction low and performance high.

Tip Three:
This is an important step that is over looked by most. Dirt is the worst thing for your shock o-rings and the shock shafts. Each time you come off the track clean your shocks with a soft brush. Make sure there is no dirt packed into the shock cup. Dirt that compacts into the shock cup allows the dirt to be forced into the shock cap bottom, under full compression, causing the o-rings to get dirty and abrasive. Cleaning your shocks each run with a soft brush will help your shocks stay better much longer and keep the performance high at all times.

Aigoin TQs and Wins Round 2 of French Nationals

The 3rd round of the French Nationals was held at Cogolin track in south of France. Team Losi Racing /nVision driver Yannick Aigoin and his TLR 8IGHT 2.0 Euro Spec Buggy would continue on the mission to keep his title after taking the TQ and overall win. With two rounds to go, the current champion Yannick is on the right track to reach his goal.

Memorial Day Shootout, Madera CA.

Over the weekend CVR in Madera CA. had their Annual Memorial Day Shootout! This track is known for it's sandy base and rough technical layouts. I ended up TQ in both buggy and truggy with my TLR 8ight 2.0's on Losi Green Blockheads on buggy and Losi Green Digits on truggy. It was a long day with three rounds of qualifying and mains that ran into the night. Just as the pro buggy A main started so did the rain! It started off with just a few sprinkles and then progressed into a lite steady rain, but the track with it's sandy base soaked it up. At the end I held on to the lead and cruised in for the victory with a little bit of a muddy car. Before the start of the truggy A main it started raining a little harder so I decided to pack up and save my truggy before I head to the Nats. All in all it was a very fun event and a good turn out and want to thank CVR and the track crew for putting on a great race!

Nor-Cal Series Championship Rnd 2

Nor-Cal Series Rnd 2 was held at Delta R/C in Antioch CA. Track had an awesome layout of big air and fast wide lanes made for some great racing! I ended up qualifying 2nd in buggy and TQ in truggy. In buggy I used Red Eclipse and truggy I ran Green King Pins. My Novarossi powered TLR 8ights felt really good going into the mains. First up was truggy A Main and it started off great and led from start to finish with a lap on the field in the 25 min main. In buggy it started off ruff as I tried to go for the pass off the start and ended up in hay bails. I started to to find my lines and move through the pack, but Austin Blair the leader was way out front so I drove smooth and made my way into second as I closed into about 10 seconds of him until he had a flame out problem. I moved past and drove a smooth race and ended up with a 2 lap lead and about 2min to go I crashed over the big double and pulled out my front left turnbuckle from the ball cup and tried to stay out and limp it around the track to see if I could hold him off to the end, but the damage was done and he got by me on the last lap as I finished just 9 seconds behind with three wheels. It was a fun day of racing at Delta R/C with a good turn out and can't wait for the next round!

One season ends, another begins...

Hey everyone! Just wanted to pass along an update from the Losi/TLR team here in Colorado. Since November of last year, we had a great program start in Northglenn, CO, running the Losi Mini-Sprints on an indoor carpet oval track. The Mini-Sprint was the perfect choice of cars because of the size and relative ease of operation. Many racers had not touched a radio in years, or never driven an R/C car, and by the end of the season everyone was challenging for A-Main spots.

More than 120 different racers came out over the 6 months of racing, many recognizable names in Colorado Motorsports. Track organizer Terry Plummer had the following to say after the last race of the season:

"The list of names participating included racers and race car enthusiasts from all different forms of full size racing. Racers and Champions from Midgets, Sprint Cars, Legends, Modifieds, Supermodifieds, Street stocks, Late Models, Fig 8's, Trucks, Mini-sprints, Go-carts, Quarter Midgets and so on. It was an excellent opportunity to get to know and to rub elbows with the best of the local talent. What a tremendous group of individuals! What terrific competition!"

So now we move outdoors, starting tomorrow at the 1st race of the Colorado State R/C Pro Series, back at Colorado Fast Track in Colorado Springs, CO - home of the 2010 ROAR Nationals. Both myself and TLR teammate Matt Chambers should be in attendance at most of the series races:

Rattlesnake Raceway

Hi everyone! We have had some great weather the last couple of weekends here in Nor Cal so we all headed out to Rattlesnake Raceway in Redding CA. This track is about 1hr and 45min north of my house. This track is always fun and challenging due to it's big jumps hard surface and lots of rocks showing witch is great for the chassis. I ended up TQ in both buggy and truggy. I set track track record for fast lap and overall qualifying time in both classes using Losi Green Blockheads in buggy along with the EU body and Losi green Digits in truggy. My TLR Novarossi powered 8ights were very easy to drive and lots of traction on this inconsistent surface. In the 20min mains I went on to a couple easy wins lapping the field. All in all the race was a lot of fun with great weather and a field with TLR 8ights as the majority! I look forward to the rest of the year and getting my track in shape for the season, E-STREET RC.

Across the country, TLR drivers are laying down some impressive scores on the rocks. Jake Wright and Mark Reel showed why they are the drivers to beat this year in the Socalrcrc series opener. Jake put his Xcelorin Powered Comp Crawler in 1st place with a score of -49. Mark Reel demolished the field in the 1.9 class, winning by nearly 50 points!

In Colorado, Jay Robinette showed why he is the reigning World Champion. He pulled off an incredible comeback win Event #4 of the Colorado Winter Series. Here's what Jay had to say after the win. "My Comp Crawler has been running very consistent that past four comps we've had here in Colorado. The Team has been working together on some crazy new set-ups for 2011 and it's starting out with great results! Last week in the 2.2 class I made the finals and was sitting in 4th place before the start. The finals course had 15 gates to be completed in 6 minutes with some of the nastiest climbs, side-hills and break-overs you could imagine. There was a 41 point difference between me and the leader and it came down to some precise driving in some very technical maneuver's to jump to the lead. After many knee shaking gates and major drop off's I managed to be the only driver to make all 15 gates. This put me into the lead and made up 41 points in just one run. My Comp Crawler with Boss Claws was very consistent and fun to drive on the super sticky rock all day."

TLR wins at Copperstate Crawloff

TLR driver Jake Wright claimed his first big win of the 2011 season with a dominating performance at the Coppersate Crawloff held over the weekend just outside of Phoenix, Arizona. Jake drove his Xcelorin powered Mini Rock Crawler Pro to victory in the 1.9 class over an extremely talented field of drivers including SDS Customs driver John Riplinger and Arizona's own Doug Toney.

Wright and Reel roll through Socalrcrc "Pre-season"

TLR drivers Jake Wright and Mark Reel set the tone for the 2011 season by dominating the Socalrcrc "Pre-season" event held last weekend. This event is designed to give competitors a chance to test and tune their crawlers for the 2011 season which kicks off on January 29th. If this event is any indication of things to come, TLR is in for a great year on the rocks!

1st round 1/8 electric indoor winter series.

Delta RC started off the 1st round electric winter series. I ended up TQ in the 1/8 scale electric with my 8ight-E buggy. My buggy was fast and easy to drive with Losi Green King Pins. In the main I pulled away from the field and kept a tight line on the small course. Lap times were getting down to the 18 seconds. I finished a full lap on the rest of the field. It was a great turn out for the first round and the track crew did a great job on the track layout. This weekend is the first round of 1/8 nitro, but I will be heading down to Revolations Raceway for the Toys For Tots race and have some fun with the So Cal boys.

Fall Classic

Drake doubles up in 1/8th buggy and 1/8th truck classes at the Kyosho Fall Classic.
Racing in Southern California is always very competitive and it was no different at last weekends Kyosho Fall Classic hosted by Revelations Raceway. The event had over 120 entries. Adam Drake and newly crowned 1/8th Buggy World Champion Cody King were on hand and battled in the 1/8th buggy class. Adam Drake driving his Nova Rossi powered, Team Losi Racing 8ight 2.0 and 8ight T 2.0 was in top form all weekend and TQ’ed every round in both classes. In the 1/8th truck class Drake lead from start to finish and took home the victory by two laps in the 30 minute final. The final event of the weekend in the 1/8th buggy class, Drake got a clean start and Cody made a few mistake early in the final which allowed Drake to pull away early. Cody continued to push hard during the final, but Drake’s pace and consistency paid of and Drake won the 30 minute final by just over one lap.

XXX-SCT TAKES VICTORY

XXX-SCT takes victory at the 2nd annual Short Course Turkey Shootout at Hemet. Team Driver Kevin Gahan would TQ and take the win in 2wd Mod Short Course with his new XXX-SCT. (Kevin- the new 2wd XXX-SCT was really easy to drive and with the amount of corner speed the track has it really allows you to make less mistakes do to not having to drive the truck hard. I was really shocked how well the truck jumped. Everyone knows how Short Course trucks like to kite in the air and the new XXX-SCT does not seem to have this problem.) Kevin Gahan also TQed and won the 4wd mod Short Course class with a Losi prototype truck. Kevin powered both of his trucks with Xcelorin electronics and AKA Gridiron tires. The big talk of the weekend was the Stock short course class witch Losi drivers Richard Trujillo (Taking TQ) and Steve Westfall would take the top to spots on the podium. Also- The team of guys over at Hemet did a really fantastic job putting on this race and if you haven’t made it out to his Friday night races, you should.

A Month of Domination on the rocks!

Team Losi’s rock crawling drivers have been on a roll throughout the month of November! Across the country, competition has been heating up as temperatures cool down. Jake Wright started the winning trend by claiming the 2010 Utah State Championship with his Team Losi Comp Crawler. Jake battled his way to the top spot against a field that featured drivers from all over the world, including the 2009 Utah State Champion, Mike Thompson. This year, the Utah State Championships is part of the USRCCA qualifying series. By winning this event, Jake has earned an entry to the 2011 USRCCA Nationals!
Continuing the winning trend, Team Drivers Jay Robinette and Nabil Jamali both claimed impressive series wins in Colorado and San Diego. Our newest team member, Mark Reel of Upland, CA, claimed his first ever Pro 2.2 class win in the 1st Annual SoCal Cash Comp held in Apple Valley, California. Great job Mark, and welcome to the team!

Wrapping up the month, Jake Wright traveled all the way to Alabama to attend the 2010 Vanquish Products Turkey Crawl. This year’s Turkey Crawl featured a new class, 2.2 Sportsman. The sportsman class challenges Pro drivers to navigate courses with shaft-driven vehicles and a two-channel radio limit. With no “dig” or “rear steering” Sportsman drivers must rely on nerves of steel and pinpoint accuracy to succeed. Throughout the day, a fierce battle unfolded between Jake Wright, 2010 National Champion Austin Dunn, and New Jersey’s James Caruso. Top drivers Scott Syjut, Trace Hillburn, and Team T1E’s Andy Zuber were all within striking distance. In the end, Jake Wright piloted his modified Night Crawler to an impressive victory, with a 17 point margin over 2nd place. Jake credits his win to his Red Compound Boss Claws and smooth 4-link suspension.
In the 2.2 Pro Class, Jake would once again do battle with defending Champion Austin Dunn. Both drivers traded the lead all day, posting extremely low scores on the gravity defying courses. In the end, Jake landed in 3rd place overall, a very impressive finish against the World class talent in attendance.

Final day of qualifying

Yesterday was the final day of qualifying. Team Losi Racing is looking strong going into the semi finals with six cars in. Team Losi Racing qualifyed in this order. 3 Adam Drake, 5 Billy Fischer, 9 Miguel Matias, 10 Mike Truhe, 12 Darren Bloomfield, 13 Yannick Aigoin. We Also have Dakotah Phend and Matt Castellano that just missed out on making the semi finals and have a really good chance to bump up. Most of the team has the day off today to get ready for a hard race tomorrow. the track is getting really bumpy and hard to drive. they did some work on the track last night but i don't think it will hold up with all the races that will run today. Look for more updates tomorrow.

First day Qualifying

Today was the first day of qualifying and we had are ups and downs. Adam Drake put in to solid runs giving the runner up spot going into tomorrows two rounds. Young gun Matt Castellano also put in two good runs to put himself in the fourth spot after two rounds giving himself some room to play with some setup changes tomorrow. Mike Truhe will have some work to do tomorrow after some problems today with a flame out in round one and a really bad marshal in round two. Mike is looking really fast and should have know problems tomorrow. overall Team Losi Racing is looking really strong at this point with six drivers in the top 15. Look for more updates tomorrow.

Overall the team ran well today. Matt Castellano set the fastest time of practice by laying down a 43.8 fast lap time and the only one running 14 laps with his Nitrotane powered 8IGHT 2.0. Matt is running strong with the likes of his other teammates Mike Truhe, Adam Drake, Yannick Aigion, Billy Fischer, Dakatoh Phend, Taylor James and Martin Bayer.

Well today was the last day of practice. Drivers qualified themselves into their heats tomorrow by running their faster three consecutive lap times for tomorrows qualifying.

Race #1 was a bit of a debacle as the track had been freshened up with concrete and oil. Now one would think that the oiling the track is a problem but by days end it proved to be the right move by the race organizer as the track held up superbly all day.

Day 1 at World Championships

Today was the first day of scheduled practice for the 2010 Worlds. The first round of practice was a straight forward 15 minute run allowing the drivers to get accustomed to the track. The second round was run with a 5 minute warm-up, timed by the announcer, and a 10 minute simulated race which was a great opportunity for our drivers to asses their run time. Dakota Phend, Taylor James and Darren Bloomfield looked strong and showed great speed for their first time running on the track as they did not attend the warm up race a month earlier. Our equipment is working well and we are finalizing our set-ups goining into qualifying. Some interesting notes: The track is a very hard pack surface with used motor oil sprayed onto it. As the day went on, the grip progessed to a medium bite. Run time does not seem to be quite as good as it was last month for the warm up race. The looser track conditions are most likely the culprit. Adam Drake and Mike Truhe seemed to have picked up where they left off and showed great speed. The biggest question is who will try to go the full 10 minutes for the qualifiers????

Overall it was a great first day. We will finalize set-ups and double check runtime and head into qualifying. We will keep you all posted as practice winds down.

The first day of practice is over. The team looked rather well today and were definitely getting faster each run. Drake, Truhe, Aigoin, and Bayer look fast. Phend and Castellano were also running very well. Our UK Champ Darren Bloomfield looked to be getting faster after each lap as this is his first time to the Pattaya track.The track is very challenging to do fast consistent laps. The triple double section in the center of the track will make or break your run. This track is going to show who is the best of the best this week. I have never seen a track that is so challenging with off camber turns, large jumps, a very high speed sweeper and different track surfaces that consist of oil sections, loose sections where oil was not applied and the concrete areas. At first looking at the track yesterday I was envious of my team mates who are racing but then after watching the skill this track takes I am glad to be helping in the pits :-)

Well the team made it to Thailand safely. The first flight from LAX to HK was 15 hours then we flew from HK to Bangkok which was another 2.5 hours then a car ride of 1.5 hours to our hotel. Total travel time from door to door was around 27 hours and for me the jet lag was not too bad.

Sunday was the first day we made it to the track to get cars teched and setup pit areas. The Pattaya track is huge and it gave me goosebumps looking at it. This track will be a true test of the drivers talent and concentration. They ran a practice run today for racers who have not qualified for the event and they will run a 30 minute race tomorrow for these drivers. One participant in this race is Surikarn Chadisuryia (probably mispelled). I am not sure how many spots are open but they will race for these final positions to compete in 2010 WC.

As for the racers who are already qualified they will run two 10 minute practice runs tomorrow. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. Truhe is up in race 1 and I think Drake is in race 3 or 4. The track is really green right now and has been oiled so it will probably take most of tomorrow to get the track run in.

Check out some of the photos from our travels to and from the track. A few of the guys rented scooters for their local transportationl. $30 for a one week rental.

The first few pics are of us trying to figure out how to get all of us and luggage to the track. We ended up getting a 3rd van to take our baggage and I had the joys of riding with the driver who spoke no english. To say the least it was a very long and quiet drive. The small pickup truck is our taxi to and from the track.

Mike Truhe added another ROAR Championship to his impressive list of wins taking home the championship in the 2WD Modified Buggy class at the 2010 ROAR 1/10 Electric Off-road Nationals. Mike was driving a Team Losi Racing XXX-CR powered by Xcelorin motor and batteries! Losi had four XXX-CR's in the 2wd mod A main!

Dustin Evans takes overall TQ in truck at the 2010 Roar national by TQing rounds 1 and;3. Losi had six XXX-T CR's in the mod truck A main! Losi also had six XXX4's in the 4wd mod A main.

Wright wins the R.E.C.O.N. Adventure Series!

Jake Wright won the 2010 R.E.C.O.N. Adventure Series, the first ever world-wide competition series. R.E.C.O.N., which started in October of 2009, culminated in June at the 2010 Axial West Coast Challenge. Drivers in the series earned points in major competitions around the world. At the end of the series, the driver with the highest point total was awarded the title. Jake Wright piloted his Team Losi Racing Comp Crawler to wins in California, Utah, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Nevada with strong finishes in Alabama and Germany. Along the journey, Jake used Team Losi Boss Claw and Comp Claws Tires along with Xcelorin electronics and batteries.

Round #5 JBRL

The JBRL nitro series round #5 kicked off in Beaumont California at Thunder Alley Raceway with 170+ entries. It was a hot weekend, but the JBRL and Thunder Alley crew did a great job. In the Expert 1/8th Truck class I was able to take the TQ in both rounds of qualifying, followed by Dylan Rodriguez and Levi Jackson. The final was only 15 minutes, but I was able to lead from start to finish and take my third win of the series. In the Expert 1/8th Buggy class I qualified 3rd. At the start of the final I moved into second before the first turn. After the first turn I flamed out and lost nearly one lap. The buggy finals was also only 15 minutes. A little more than half way through the race and I was up to third, but had to pit for a splash of fuel. I ended up 4th overall. My Nova Rossi powered Losi 8ight 2.0 and 8ight T 2.0 preformed great all weekend.

Monster Energy Summer Series

Revelation Raceway is the host track for the 2010 Monster Energy Summer Series. The events are one day and consist of two rounds of qualifing and main events.

Round 1

I Tq'ed 1/8th buggy class with my Nova Rossi power Losi 8ight 2.0 buggy followed by teammate Matt Schreffler also running a Nova Rossi powered Losi 8ight 2.0 and Colby Poh started third on the grid. In the final Matt used the option line to move past me at the start of lap one, but I was able to get back into the lead before the end of lap one and never looked back. I won the 20 minute final by more than a lap over Colby Poh and Matt Schreffler finished third. Matt and I used Losi’s green compound Kingpin G2’s for qualifying and the Main.

In the final Matt Schreffler and I had a great battle and pulled away from the rest of the field. I won the 20 minute final with Schreffler finishing second and Castellano finishing third. It was a Losi 1,2,3 sweep! Drake, Schreffler, and Castellano used Losi’s green compound Eclipse and XBT’s.

Just got back from the Motorama in PA. There was an impressive 460 entries and a lot of great competition and teammates I got to meet from the east coast. When I arrived at the indoor arena the track size looked great and so did the layout with some tricky obstacles, but you could tell it was going to get very rough and will need to run a smart smooth race at the end. I ran all three classes 1/8 electric buggy, 1/8 nitro buggy and 1/8 nitro truggy. After qualifying was all over I ended up TQ in electric buggy, 4th in nitro buggy and 2nd in nitro truggy. Teammates Kevin Wilson qualified 5th in nitro buggy, 11th in nitro truggy and Chuck Berg qualified 7th in nitro buggy and 14th in nitro truggy. In the electric main I ran into a problem with my car and ended up finishing 2nd and in nitro buggy it started off with a great battle for the lead and after about 10 min into the race I got into a grove with the track and pulled away and ended up winning with a full lap lead, Kevin Wilson 7th and Chuck Berg 5th. In truggy it started off with a very bad start and ended up coming back with a hard charge for 2nd, just 2 seconds back from the leader Barry Baker, Kevin Wilson 6th and Chuck Berg 7th. My Novarossi powered Losi 8ight 2.0's worked great all weekend and want to thank all my teammates for the help and great team effort! Motorama was a great event and can't wait to go back next year!

A little update on how things are going over here in Nor-Cal. We just finished the third round of the winter series at Delta RC a week ago and we had Ryan Lutz attend along with local fast guy Tyler Vik and it was a great battle for the TQ spot. I ended up TQ in both buggy and truggy with Green Kingpins in buggy. The main was a great battle between Vik and I. We swapped positions through the race and I led most the race, but had some bad luck getting through traffic and a couple mistakes by myself. Vik got me at the end with a great run. Truggy went a little better with leading from start to finish! My Losi 8ight 2.0's are always fast and fun to drive every time I hit the track especially with my always dependable Novarossi engines and Nitrotane fuel. I will be heading down to So-Cal soon to get away from all this rain we are having for some outdoor action!

We just kicked off the first round of the Delta RC Indoor Winter Series. Track is tight and very technical with great traction, but one of the toughest obstacles is keeping warm. I TQed both buggy and truggy and the only one to go the extra lap in buggy qualifying. We ran 30 min mains and finished first in both classes with my Novarossi powered 8ight 2.0's! In buggy I ran Losi Green Kingpins and truggy I ran Pro-Line M3 Calibers. Novarossi Plus 4c in buggy and Toro Nero in truggy. It's great to see how many racers in the Northern CA. area run Losi products and Novarossi engines. Losi swept all the classes for the 1st round Winter Series!! Lately I have been getting lots of complements on Losi's great customer service and it makes me very proud to represent such a great company!! Stay tuned for more up dates on the Nor-Cal area.

Team Losi welcomes two new Drivers to the team

Nabil Jamali from San Diego, California and Marty Mann from Kalispell, Montana will be joining Jake Wright, Jay Robinette and Brian Jones representing Team Losi Racing for the remainder of 2009 and 2010. Both will be competing with their 1/10th Comp Crawlers and 1/18th Mini Rock Crawlers.

Just a little info for you guys. We just had our final round of the Nor-Cal series in Antioch at Delta R/C. I went into the last round of series with a perfect score in buggy and almost perfect in truggy. I finished the series off perfect with another TQ and win in buggy and truggy! This is the 3rd straight year I have won buggy and 1st time winning truggy over all. My Novarossi Powered Losi 8ight's worked awesome at every round. In the last round at Delta R/C I ran Losi red EBT on buggy and Losi Reptiles on truggy. Losi sweeps the series in every class, me winning both expert classes, Frank L. winning Sportsman truggy and up and coming young Jacob Haas winning sportsman buggy. Jacob Haas has a natural talent driving around the track that I enjoy to watch, look out for this kid soon! I have been really busy lately getting everything ready for our 2nd Annual Labor Day Shootout at RiverFront R/C in Marysville CA. We hope to have a great turn out so try and make it out if you can!

2009 ROAR Fuel Nationals - Wednesday & Thursday

DAY ONE - Wednesday July 15, 2009
The team arrived at the 2009 Roar Fuel Nationals at Leisure Hours Raceway in Joliet, IL on Tuesday afternoon. We are here in full force with 23 team members attending. When we arrived the track looked really good and smooth. We spent most of the afternoon setting up the Losi pit area.

We woke up Wednesday morning to discover that it had rained for most of the night. When we got to the track we found that it had rained more than we thought, we could hardly get our car into the dirt lot to park. They ended up pushing practice back until noon which was not bad. The day ended up being a good day for the team. They ran two rounds of practice in heats, which I thought was the right thing to do since they started late and there were a good amount of people there.

The team mainly just focused on getting the track down. There are a couple of spots on the track that are a bit technical with some jumps in corners, and a very large jump in the center on the track. By the end of the day they all had it down pretty well. The track at the end of the day was very hard packed and grooving-up nicely. It looked as if it would hold up nice all week.

DAY TWO - Thursday July 16, 2009
We had no rain Wednesday night which was nice. Thursday's practice was run by ROAR, which means they set up new heat sheets. We are not sure if these are going to be the qualifying heats for Friday and Saturday. They ran two hours of open practice in the morning, one hour for truggy and one hour for buggy. The track was still looking good and grooving up more and more.

So they all tried different tires throughout the day, with Billy and Casey liking the Losi red Eclipse on buggy and Bowfighters on the truggy. Mike is liking the Bow Tie all the way around his buggy and Bowfighters on the truggy. Adam is using the Caliber on both his buggy and truggy. Most of the other team members are running the Losi Eclipse's in Red.

Mike and Adam seemed to be the to fastest on the track today with 32 sec lap times. Billy and Phillip are right there with those times but not as consistent throughout the day. This could have been because Billy and Phillip tried a lot of tires throughout the day. Everyone seemed to be happy with the cars today and is looking forward to qualifying tomorrow.

The track started to break-up at the end of the day, and looked to be getting a little slower in the last couple of heats today. As we started packing up our stuff to head back to the hotel we had a big storm come through that put a lot of water down on the track. This will change a lot for Friday's qualifying. We will have to see what happens tomorrow.

Main Day at the Shootout

Luckily Matt Francis is in town and has his wireless hooked up at the track so I can do some updates for part of the day. The big announcement yesterday was Matt was inducted into the RC Car Hall of Fame. The RC Car Hall of Fame is totally new to the RC World thanks to the creator Jimmy Babcock. Matt was honored as the first inductee into the Hall of Fame. You can find the website at www.rccarhalloffame.com for more information.

Onto the racing. Our team did well in the qualifying. Truhe and Evans put their XXX-4's and XXX-T CR's into the A-Main in 4wd Modified and Truck Modified respectively. In 2wd Modified Truhe, Evans, and Fischer placed their XXX-CR's in the A-main. I ended up placing my XXX-CR in the Super Stock Buggy Main in P4.

Results after first day of qualifying at HRH Shootout

Round 1
First round of qualifying the track had substantially less grip than we saw on Wednesday during practice. Generally at HRH the the weather is extremely hot around 100+ degrees however this year we have a comfortable 85 degree weather. Qualifying is based on best 2 out of 4 qualifying points so every run counts as well as consistency. Here are our results after the first day of qualifying. The tire of choice in 2wd is Red BK Bars on the rear and Silver Taper Pin front tires. In truck it is Red Taper Pins on the front and rear. 4wd we are using Red BK Bar on the rear and Red Taper Pin fronts. The whole team is using 2 stage inserts on the rear of all of our cars and the front of 4wd.

As for me and my resurgence into electric offroad today went relatively well. I managed a 3rd in Super Stock 2wd in Round 1. I believe a 5th or 6th in round 2. In 2wd modified....yeah I need more practice.

I just saw that our European team qualified really well in Austria at the 1.8th Offroad European Championships. We have 1 8IGHT 2.0 in the Semi Final Odd and 3 8IGHT 2.0's in the Semial Final Even. I wish them all the best tomorrow...actually they are probably at the track right now starting their day of racing considering they are 8+ hours ahead of us.

Day 2 of practice is over at 2009 Hot Rod Hobbies Shootout

Well it is time to head into qualifing tomorrow. Today's practice went really well. We were able to improve our laptimes in all classes. Today the whole team was running well with Dustin Evans and Mike Truhe posting very quick laptimes in 2wd Modified followed closely behind by Matt Chambers and Billy Fischer. Truhe looked stellar in Truck and 4wd as did the rest of the team.

There are a few hours of open practice tomorrow morning from 6 to 8am. Then we go into 2 rounds of qualifying with 6 minute qualifiers. As of tonight there are about 300 entries and they will be taking entries until 8am tomorrow so we may see well over 350 entries.

Truhe is back at the hotel working on his 8IGHT 2.0 right now getting it ready for next weeks 1.8th ROAR National. Can Losi make a three in a row? Adam Drake 2007 ROAR National Champion, Mike Truhe 2008 ROAR National Champion, ???? ????? 2009 ROAR National Champion.

12th Annual Hot Rod Hobbies Shootout

The Losi team and I are at the 12th Annual Hot Rod Hobbies Shootout in Saugus, CA. From the Losi factory Dan Hissam (Losi Race Engineer) and myself are attending along with our entire Losi Offroad Electric team. This includes Matt Chambers, Dustin Evans, Mike Truhe, Billy Fischer, Schlick Brothers, and Matt Castellano. I am sure more of the local drivers will be showing up tomorrow for the final day of practice. The track layout is very flowing and is almost identical to the 2001 Reedy Race layout. For those who have never been to the Hot Rod Hobbies track it is very high grip when the track is run dry. So far fast laps in 2wd with our and Truck Modified are 18.5 second and mid 17 second laps in 4wd. This years race has racers from Japan and Australia which gives the race an "International" flare. Once again we find that Losi Red BK Bars are the best tire for the rear of our 2wd and 4wd along with Taper fronts. In truck it is still the famous Taper Pin on the front and rear.

Tomorrow is controlled practice with qualifying starting on Friday and continuing on Saturday. Sunday will be all Mains. Two Time World Champion and Losi Driver Matt Francis is coming in for the weekend for a special event at Hot Rod Hobbies. I kind of have an idea of what it is all aboutI and I will keep you informed on what happens so stay tuned.

In 2wd we have been working on some great setups that have been working really well. It is a slight departure from what we have ran in the past and I will get setups posted to http://www.losi.com/ next week.

Backyard crawling at Greg's

Lately I have been doing a little crawling with my new comp crawler. I have to say this is a fun, and relaxing way to enjoy rc. From the get go the comp crawler has been a blast for me to learn to crawl with. The dig option sure seems to get the truck in and out of some of the toughest obstacles.

My painter and long time racer Greg Carrol from Greg's Graf-x, has built a challenging crawling course in his back yard for some friendly competitions. The course includes a couple of man made canyons, a rope bridge, a vert drop to start you off and even an over-under to keep you on your toes. Greg has had to tighten up the gates and make the course a bit harder since getting his losi. I thought I would share some pics from one of the backyard comps. (notice the cool green paint job on my rig)

I would like to congradulate Richard and his team of die hard crawlers for putting in all of the hard work it takes to put out a great vehicle like this one. Great job guys! Keep up the good work.

Summer Series at the Nitro Pit

Hello Losi race fans!

The last couple of weeks have been super hot out here in sunny Arizona. But this never seems to stop us crazies from racing!
The Summer series at the Nitro Pit kicked off last weekend and drew a large crowd to do battle the AZ Nitro way. In spite of the 108 temps racers from all over came out to kick off this years series. To spice things up a bit we use a starting gate for the summer series. This adds plenty of excitement to the program and is quite fun.

Both of my 2.0 vehicles were up for the challenge and I was able to secure the TQ in both classes. As the sun went down the temps began to be a bit more bearable and by main time it was quite nice out. The expert buggy main was a hard fought battle between myself and fellow team mate Chris Wheeler. Chris drove a great race and he was rewarded with the 20 lap win, good job Chris!

Gates starts for truggy are always a blast and the one for this main did not disappoint. I got a decent start, was able to take over the lead on the first lap and never looked back. Thanks to Billy Fischer for some new set up ideas that have made my truggy the best its been. I am looking forward to the up coming Roar fuel Nats to see how we stack up to the competition.

The WCC Experience - by Jake Wright

First off, WOW! I've never been to a bigger, tougher, crazier, or more competitive event... ever! Parker and company really stepped up the courses and the event as a whole was awesome. Huge thanks to my sponsors Losi, Spektrum, RCP Crawlers, Rocksmith engineering, and everyone else who made this event possible. Everyone who dragged their rigs up the mountain for the WCC left with memories that will last a lifetime.

So about those courses... We all know that Parker is a madman, but this year he really went all out. Water, mud, sand, cables, bridges, banners, and courses that made you drive 100 yards or more were just some of the challenges. Oh, and throw in a 6 minute time limit and some very inviting bonus lines and you have the WCC.

After practicing on Friday, I knew I had to make a few changes to get my rig to where I wanted it. The rock at Donner Ski Ranch is tricky, it has tons of traction in places, and zero traction in other places. I slapped on a brand new set of Comp Claws and took an ounce out of each rear tire in hopes of finding a little more forward bite... and it worked! My Losi felt like it was glued to the rocks!

The level of competition at the WCC was just incredible. The best drivers in the US were there and putting up low scores all over the place. I drove pretty conservatively on day 1 and didn't attempt any bonuses, but I did finish all 4 courses with a total of -53 points. This put me solidly in 2nd place but just a few points ahead of some incredibly talented drivers.

Day 2 the courses were even tougher and I did my best just to keep putting in negative scores. Time management was huge and I watched several great drivers put in great runs only to time out just inches from the finish. I was definitely in the zone on Sunday and I took on the bonus lines on all 4 courses, netting me a score of -69, and a total of -122 for the weekend!

Going into the final 10 shootout, I knew I needed a good run. Grover and Kolby were only a few points behind me and any mistake could knock me out of the final 5 shootout. The course had a 3 minute time limit, and was absolutely brutal. I struggled a bit on gate 1, but managed to finish with just seconds to spare... keeping me in 2nd place.

The final 5 shootout course was awesome. It was a crazy combination of water, mud, bridges, boudaries, and crowds. I felt like the entire RC crawling community was watching when I stepped up to drive.

I ran a perfect -10 in the finals course and locked in my 2nd place finish. Jake H. was on his game all weekend and there was no chance for me to catch him. I might have had a shot had I been more aggressive on day 1, but even then he would have been tough to beat. He is a great driver and competitor, and I feel that he's stepped up his driving a lot too... oh well, time to practice more

All and all, it was one incredible weekend of wheeling at one of the coolest compsites in the world. I went into Donner on a mission, and I don't feel that I let anyone down. I wanted to show the world what the Losi rig was capable of and I wanted to honor my dad on the rocks the only way I know how. I know he was there watching too... I ran the 022 stickers all weekend and certainly felt like he was right there with me.

For now, I've got to figure out how to get all that mud off my rig and then its back to the rocks for more practice. The Vanquish LaGuerra en Rocas Rojo event in Colorado is two weeks away and the next battle is always just over the horizon...

We are done for the day. The team did really well with Dustin Evans on top after two rounds of 4WD. Dakotah Phend was the talk of the pits after getting second for Round 2. I think everyone needs to watch out for Dakotah tomorrow, he just gets faster and faster every time he is on the track. Matt Chambers is looking really good for tomorrow, and Mike Truhe's first round today was good but he had some problems in 2WD truck and 2WD buggy. Billy Fischer is getting faster and faster each time he hits the track. People should be looking for him to be at the top of the field tomorrow. I have been trying to blog some video but having some problem with this. I think there are too many people on the web in the building. I will try to post some tonight, so look for an update in the morning.

Electric Nationals - Round One is Complete

We have made it through the first round! The track is really grooved-up at this point. 2WD is looking good after round one with Mike Truhe in 4th, Matt Chambers in 6th, Dustin Evans in 7th and Billy Fischer in 10th. They are going to make some small changes to their vehicles for round two.
In the truck class Dakotah Phend finished in 3rd, Mike Truhe in 4th, Dustin Evans in 6th, Matt Chambers in 8th and Billy Fischer in 14th. In 4wd Dustin Evans was really fast and finished in 2nd, Mike Truhe in 3rd, Billy Fischer in 12th, Matt Chambers in 15th and Dakotah Phend in 16th.
Round two is getting started right now. I plan to get some more video posted so look for more updates later today. Good Luck Team Losi!

We are currently at a stand-still due to some rain. So far this morning we have run one Modified Truck race and now we are stopped at the second Modified Truck run. It looks like the storm is very small and should be over soon. Right now the track looks to be in good shape, so we will see what happens.

Electric Nationals - Practice is Complete

Well practice has ended and we anticipate good weather going into tomorrow. The track has started to groove without getting too many bumps, and in some spots the track is even starting to break-up a bit.

Most of the faster lap times stayed in the 30 sec/lap time range for 2WD Truck, and some of the really fast guys are running 28 sec/lap. If the track does not break-up too much, everyone should be able to maintain at these rates. I will post another update tomorrow after round one of qualifying.

The track is coming in really nice today. The surface is starting to groove-up a bit, and the tires to use are the Losi IFMAR Pin treads. Mike Truhe is looking very fast in 4WD and Dustin Evans is extremely fast in 2WD. So far today we have completed two rounds of practice and the final round is starting right now. I will post another update after this final round, along with some video of the team.

Electric Nationals - Mike Truhe Running his XXX-T CR

Here is a video of Mike Truhe running his XXX-T CR truck. In this video Mike was running 30 second lap times, which seemed to be the fastest lap time of the day.

I think the track will get a little faster tomorrow. There were a couple of spots on the track that were still a little wet and would slow the vehicles when their chassis hit the ground. Tomorrow the team will be running three, six minute heats during practice. It will be nice to get this extra round of practice since most of the today's practice was rained out. The team is feeling really good about tomorrow, as they should have a good starting set-up.

The HobbyTown USA here in Omaha is outstanding. They have everything you need to get started in the hobby. They have a really nice outdoor track, as well as a really clean indoor carpet track with a nice pit area that will accommodate several people. If you want to slow things down, they also have nice indoor and outdoor rock crawling tracks. So what I'm trying to say is if you are ever in Omaha, be sure to stop by their HobbyTown USA!

Electric Nationals - A Couple Laps with Dustin Evans

Well the rain stopped and we were able to practice for about five hours today. The whole team was looking good with Dustin and Mike putting in some of the fastest laps of the day. I got a couple of runs in today and the track was so much fun; it is really nice to be running on a track surface other than blue groove this year.

Nor Cal Series Rnd 4, Riverfront R/C

Hi guys! We just had our Nor Cal Series rnd 4 at my track, Riverfront R/C and it was a great turn out. I had my work cut for me trying to run the race and race at the same time, but it turned out fine with the help of John Scott and Jason Moberly. I ended up TQ in both buggy and truggy and also went on to take the win in both. At Riverfront R/C we have a Dash For Cash at every race witch means the top 2 quals of each class goes in and is staggered through out the track with a 4 min sprint and a hundred dollars is up for grabs, it's a lot of fun to race and watch. I came from the back and ended up winning, but not without a battle from young rising star Jacob Haas who also drives a Losi buggy and has only been racing gas for less than a year and he is fun to watch go around the track, watch out for this kid! My Losi cars and Novarossi engines where great and can't thank my sponsors enough for all the support!

Electric Nationals - Some Pictures of the Track Before Practice

Well the Losi Team has made it to Omaha for the Electric Nationals, and it looks as though we will be up against some nice hot weather. Late in the afternoon yesterday we had one of the worst storms that I have ever been in. The track seems to be soaking up the water fast, and we should be able to start practice around noon today as long as we don't get anymore rain.

The team is looking forward to running on this track, especially since we have not been on a track like this in a long time. A lot of the races last year featured a blue groove track, and this track is more of a loose track. From what we can see it will be an all-Losi tire weekend. I will be sending updates throughout the day so keep checking back often.

Hello Losi race fans!

In the last month I have been busy building a couple of offroad tracks and recouping from a nasty Flu. But I was able to attend the 2nd annual Nitrocross State Championships. The event is held at the world famous Nitro Pit and includes gate motocross style starts and a unique qualifying format. This years attendance almost doubled last years and made for some exciting racing.

My good friend and fellow team mate Billy Fischer was the man to beat and proved it by Tqing both pro Buggy and Truggy classes. I thought I had a little something for him but he was pretty much perfect throughout the day and all I had was not good enough. Both of my 2.0 vehicles were awesome and I was able to qualify 2nd in truggy but a tangle with lapped traffic took me out of the race and ended any chances of a podium finish.

In buggy I had a rough time in qualifying and transfer ed out of the simi with Losi driver Clint Wachter. This landed us in the 9th and 10th spot on the grid.

Local Losi driver's Chris Wheeler was awesome in the qualifying and ended up starting right behind Fischer. New Losi team drivers Trevor Clement and Charles Hicks qualified well and set up the 20 lap main for a possible Losi podium sweep.

When It was all said and done Billy ran a flawless race and took the win without too much of a fight, I was able to battle back to a second with Mike Morales rounding out the podium.
I am looking forward to the upcoming ROAR fuel Nationals in July and would like to see a Losi on top once again.

CVR Memorial day Shoot out

Hi guys! Last weekend CVR in Madera CA. had there annual Memorial Shoot out race. Ryan Lutz and Chad Bradley showed up and a whole crew of fast local talent. When I showed up in the morning the track was so dry and dusty and at times hard to even see your car. Both my buggy and truggy were AWESOME and felt confident going into the weekend. I ended up TQ in buggy and the only one to get the extra lap. I also TQ'ed truggy by 10 seconds over Lutz. When it was time for the 45min mains the next day I ended up running Red Eclipse on the buggy and they felt great. When the race started I pulled away from the field slowly and built myselfe up a half track lead on Lutz and Bradley and with only 15min left I ran out of gas due to me not hearing my pit guy to come in, but he got me back out there and I charged back to 2nd place. In truggy everything was great and went on to a win by 3 laps with my Toro Nero running perfect all the way to the end and took home some $cash! I ran the New M3 Caliber truggy tire and they felt great all through the race. I'm putting on a club race this weekend at my track, Riverfront R/C and it should be a good time. Our track layout this year is awesome and provides a lot of great racing. hope to have all of you out here soon!

Kickin off the summer

Hello all. We have been getting into full swing to kick off the summer race season. I have quite a few different big races in my near future. We head out to Omaha Nebraska in 3 weeks or so for the Roar electric nationals. Than just a week after we get home from that we have the always fun HRH shootout. Than the very next week i will be at the Roar Off Road Fuel nationals in Illinois where i am looking forward to try and defend my Roar fuel buggy national title. I am very confident going into this. I have been focusing mainly on my gas program and have been very excited to be working with my new Orion engines. They have been very good from the beginning and have been working with them and have made huge personal improvements. I am very excited for the future with Orion and working with the progression and development of the engines. I look forward to seeing you all at the races and lets all have a great and fun summer racing :)

SoCal Crawlers Series Finale

I went into our Socalrcrc series finals over the weekend tied for 1st overall in the series. The pressure was on, and some of the best drivers in the club were within striking distance. The courses were very technical and I knew one mistake could drop me right out of the top 5 for the series. I've been putting in a lot of extra hours practicing with the Losi, and it paid off.

I ran all 3 courses with one total penalty point Two perfect scores, and one course with one reverse gave me a total of -22 for the day! It was easily enough for 1st place in the comp, and enough to wrap up the 2008-2009 Socalrcrc series title. Drivers in our club have really stepped up their game, and I'm proud to have been able to put the 2.2 Losi on top

As always, I have thank Rich and everyone else from Losi who has helped me along the way. These guys have put in countless hours designing the new rig, and its paying off. With the first shipment just days away from finally reaching you guys, I'm really not looking forward to having to compete against them on course

For now, I'm off for more practicing. The WCC is right around the corner, and with this rig I will be a force to be reckoned with. I can't wait for my chance to represent Losi and Socalrcrc against the best the world has to offer...

Colorado Racing

Hello All,

As Dustin posted below we are 4 races into the CO gas season. I had some difficulty at two of the races. At the CO State Nitro Challenge I was leading when I had a throttle servo failure and a drive pin came loose for me while running in 2nd at the RC Pro Series (NEVER be shy with the threadlock kids!). Beside those incidents I have won the other 2 gas races held in Denver and feel very confident with my 8ight 2.0. So between me and Dustin, a Losi 8ight 2.0 has won 4 out of 4 races so far this season!

If gas racing teaches you nothing else... it is that preparation is key. With that said I have been working hard to prepare for the upcoming ROAR Electric Nationals to be held in Omaha, NE at the end of June. We have an awesome practice track that has been great for testing my XXX-CR, XXXT-CR, and XXX-4. The track is very similar to the nats track so I have been working hard to improve the handling of my vehicles. Thanks to ideas and help from Adam, Dyno, Billy, and Matt Lee my vehicles setups are coming along quickly. Thanks to you guys for inspiring me to "think outside the box".

Colorado Nitro Challenge / RC Pro Series Rd. 1

Its been a great start to the gas season for me, 2 weeks ago I Tq'ed and won the Colorado Nitro Challenge, than this past weekend I went on to Tq and win the first round of the RC Pro Series with my 8ight 2.0 buggy. My car has been amazing and hope to continue this run in a couple weeks with round 2 of the Pro Series. Along with gas racing we have prepared a track that is similar to that of the electric nationals this year in Omaha, Nebraska. I have one test day so far on the track with day 2 coming tomorrow, and will be over there atleast 3 days a week for the next month and a half preparing for Nationals at the end of June. Hope everything is going well for all the losi consumers out their!
